Ruto laughs off ‘loitering’ jibe from Uhuru

Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday laughed off remarks by President Uhuru Kenyatta that he was spending most of his time loitering.

Addressing mourners during the funeral service for Mrs Virginia Ciarunji Njoka, mother of National Assembly Speaker, Justin Muturi at Kanyuambora secondary school, where the president yet again repeat the jibe, Mr Ruto said he was happy to be interacting with members of public.

“I am happy to report what I have been doing while loitering at the grassroots every weekend. I have something to report because it is what you have sent me to do,” said Mr Ruto, sending mourners roaring with laughter.

He went ahead to tabulate some of the development projects that the national government was undertaking in Embu county, tabulating the roads currently under construction and their status.

He gave the example of Muthatari-Siakago-Ugweri road which he said was complete, Embu Level Five hospital-Kathangariri-Kianjokoma road which is ongoing and the stalled Kiritiri-Siakago road.

“The contractor should either complete it or ship out,” said Mr Ruto.

He said the national government had also set aside Sh770 million for rural electrification in the county and was about to complete a cancer centre at the Embu Level Five hospital.
