Ruto, Joho appeal for political tolerance
Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday shared a platform with Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho in a rally in Taveta town where they asked for political tolerance.
The two leaders who were hosted by Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu asked political leaders to concentrate on development and leave 2017 campaign politics.
Mr Joho and Mr Mruttu (both CORD Governors) said it was not time for political competition but time to serve the people.
“Let us concentrate on serving the people who elected us. We have two years to the General Election. We have time to do politics later,” Mr Joho said.
“We are here because we want to see development. We do not have any agenda other than serve the people,” Mr Joho added.
The Mombasa Governor asked the national Government to give conditional grants to counties to enable them construct roads.
Mr Joho also asked the national government to assist counties in building capacity.
DEVELOPMENT RECORD
The rally saw some of Opposition MPs back the Government saying its development record is evident.
MPs Badi Twalib (Changamwe) Abdulswamad Sharrif Nassir, Andrew Mwadime, Andrew Mlolwa and John Waluke, and Governor Mruttu, all ODM, said they will support the Government’s development agenda because it benefits the people.
Also present were MPs Naomi Shaban, Harrison Kombe, Kigo Njenga and Mshenga Mvita.
Mr Mruttu said he will not play politics when his electorate requires services such as good hospitals, schools and roads.
He appealed to the Government to distribute titles to residents of Taita Taveta County.
Mr Ruto said the government will serve all Kenyans irrespective of their political affiliation.
He emphasized that the Jubilee administration will ensure all parts of the country are developed equally.
“As government, we are going to serve all Kenyans regardless of their party of affiliation because all of us are Kenyans,” Mr Ruto said.
UNITE KENYANS
“This government will serve all Kenyans whether they voted for us or not. As leaders, we have a responsibility to work together in serving the electorate without discrimination because the people of Kenya expect nothing less,” he said.
Mr. Ruto asked leaders to unite Kenyans instead of dividing them along political lines.
While calling upon Kenyans to shun divisive politics, the Deputy President said the sole aim of the government was to ensure all Kenyans are united and work together on projects that will impact positively on their lives.
“Our mission to transform this country will be achieved as long as we remain united,” he said.
Mr. Ruto told members of parliament to channel all Constituency Development Fund (CDF) towards improving education standards in their constituencies.
“The most important function of CDF is to improve both the learning environment physical facilities in schools so that our children get the best opportunity to learn,” he said.
The DP also announced that the Oloitoktok –Taveta road will be tarmacked starting in August.
