Ruto kept waiting for hours at Moi’s Kabarak residence, but fails to meet retired president

Deputy President William Ruto on Thursday paid a courtesy call on former President Daniel arap Moi at his Kabarak home, but failed to meet him even after a lengthy wait.

A statement released by the former President’s media team states that the DP arrived when the retired president was undergoing routine physical exercise with his doctors.

“Ruto, who was accompanied by Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter, Ainaboi MP William Chepkut and lawyer Stephen Kipeknda were welcomed and had lunch at Mzee’s Kabarak home,” the statement read in part.

The retired president is also reported to have agreed to meet Ruto’s team at a convenient time in the very near future.

POLITICAL MENTOR

Ruto’s visit to Kabarak and his failure to meet his political mentor comes in the wake of changing dynamics in the Kenyan political landscape.

For starters, Ruto and Mzee Moi’s son Gideon are said to be locked in a battle for political supremacy in the Rift Valley, a feud political analysts have predicted will culminate in the two contesting for the Presidency in 2022.

The DP is also said to be trying to mend fences with the former President, with the two barely on speaking terms since back in 2007 when the younger politician dethroned his former boss as the Kalenjin community’s political kingpin.
