Rowdy youth vandalize Umoja CDF project

Normal activities around Unity Primary School in Nairobi’s Umoja Innercore estate were disrupted on Wednesday when rowdy youths demonstrated and demolished a borehole which is built inside the school.

The borehole which was put up by the previous administration was repaired by the current Member of Parliament of Embakasi West George Theuri.

The MP gave the borehole to the local youths to sell water to the community.

The youths claim that they sell water during the weekdays when most residents don’t have water, but on the weekends when Nairobi Water opens the taps they don’t sell it.

DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY

The placard-waving youths blamed the area MP of discriminating them and working with the local water cartels to sell them water. They claimed that the borehole was for the community and the water should not be sold.

Police had a hard time controlling the situation after the youths blocked the major road. The youths were later dispersed by Administration Police from the nearby chief’s camp.

One person was injured during the fracas and three people were arrested and taken to Buru Buru Police Station and will be charged with destruction of property and disturbance of peace.
