RINGTONE: My most memorable Christmas, my granny’s tasty mandazis

December 25th, 2016 1 min read

Kenyan gospel musician Alex Apoko popularly known as Ringtone will always remember Christmas when he was aged seven.

The Tenda Wema hit maker had moved from living in the streets to his grandmother’s house in Eldoret.

“That day my grandmother siagad some ngano using stones and made me tasty mandazis which I distributed to the kids in our neighbourhood. If you could have seen me walking around with mandazis giving every child I came across,” recalled the singer.

TROUBLE FREE CHRISTMAS

Ringtone has since then never celebrated a trouble free Christmas.

“On Christmas day I usually find myself either broke because I was excepting some cash that did not come through or just in so much trouble and unable to celebrate,” Ringtone told Nairobi News.

This Sunday though it will be a different Christmas for Ringtone who intends to go back to the giving he did aged seven.

“I have not been able to donate during previous Christmases but this one I will be teaming up with my colleagues and the Cross Over team for a charity event at a children’s home in Roysambu. At least even though I won’t make some mandazis to distribute I will be able to buy and donate much more than mandazis and for that I thank God,” said Ringtone.

Ringtone wishes you all a Merry Christmas and Happy 2017!
