Legio Maria adherents camped at the foot of the rock to conduct masses, sing praises and recite the rosary.

According to Pamela Atieno, residents and pilgrims started streaming to village on Monday 5am and stayed overnight after word went round.

“I have been here for more than 30 years. This is the place I am married, but I had never seen the image of  Mary,” said Mrs Atieno.

Mrs Atieno said she was part of the crowd that prayed at the foot of the rock overnight.

Legion Maria faithfuls at the site spoke in tongues, prayed and sang. They also lit candles around the rock and burnt incense to celebrate the ‘miracle’.

Some residents were quick to politicise the ‘miracle’, saying it is a good sign for the gubernatorial ambitions of Prof Anyang Nyong’o.

“This is a sign that the region will produce good leaders like Professor. We now want Nasa Presidential candidate Mr Raila Odinga to come visit the rock and he will surely win in the coming General Elections,” said Mr Ignatius Wesonga.
