Raila leading in Nairobi as Sonko closes in on Governor Kidero
More than half of Nairobi residents would vote for National Super Alliance (Nasa) candidate Raila Odinga if elections were conducted today, according a new poll released on Friday by Infotrak.
The survey conducted across 85 wards of Nairobi County says Mr Odinga would beat President Uhuru Kenyatta in the city vote hunt with 56 per cent vote tally.
President Kenyatta on the other hand would garner 40 per cent of Nairobi votes, the survey said.
Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero (ODM) is head to head with his main challenger Senator Mike Mbuvi Sonko (Jubilee) for the Nairobi top seat with just nine days to the general election.
The polls ties the two gubernatorial candidates at 45 per cent, while other candidates Peter Kenneth and Miguna Miguna who are running on independent tickets trail at 3.3 per cent and two per cent respectively.
UNDECIDED VOTERS
There are all indications the two candidate must work hard to convince the undecided 4 per cent voters in order to win the Nairobi seat.
Meanwhile, Jubilee candidate Johnson Sakaja for Nairobi senate seat is way ahead of his ODM opponent Mr Edwin Sifuna.
Mr Sakaja is currently leading at 50 per cent, 22 percentage points clear of his opponent Mr Sifuna who is trailing at 28 per cent.
The polls also puts ODM women representative candidate Esther Passaris on the lead at 61 per cent against Jubilee’s Rachel Shebesh who would garner 28 per cent if elections were to be held today.
Despite the close contest between Dr Kidero and Sonko, National Super Alliance (Nasa) still remains the most preferred party by the city residents.
HOTLY CONTESTED
ODM party MP candidates will comfortably win seven out of 17 MP seats in the city, while Jubilee will win five. Other five constituencies will however be hotly contested.
The ODM’s seven strongholds include Kibra, Westlands, Embakasi South, Embakai East, Embaksi Central, Makadara and Dagoretti North. Jubilee zones are Dagoretti South, Roysambu, Starehe, Kamkunji and Embakasi West.
Langata, Ruaraka, Kasarani, Embakasi North and Mathare would go either way according to Infotrak.
The survey conducted between 15 and 22nd July this year sampled 1,500 respondents across the 85 wards of Nairobi County with margin error of ±2.5 per cent.
