Raila blows whistle on another Sh33b water harvesting ‘scandal’ in Mau

Cord leader Raila Odinga now says there is another Sh33 billion water scandal being implemented in the Mau forest, which he says will turn seven surrounding counties into deserts.

The ODM party leader said the multibillion shillings water scandal – the Itare Water Supply Project – is being implemented in South West Mau right in the heart of Mau forest.

He warned that the project will divert water from Mau Tower to Nakuru and surrounding towns at the expense of Narok, Bomet, Kericho, Kisii, Nyamira, Kisumu and Homa Bay counties.

While addressing Jubilee National Governing Council, President Uhuru Kenyatta alluded to the fact that Mr Odinga would expose the project as a scandal, saying the Cord leader was out to create a wedge between Kikuyus and Kalenjins.

Mr Odinga, who made a similar claim against the water project in Murang’a, maintains says no public participation was done. “Only Nakuru county residents were consulted,” he said.

WHITE ELEPHANT

He expressed fears that water will be diverted to Ruiru to feed personal projects of top leadership of Jubilee government.

Mr Odinga demanded that proper public participation be done with all affected counties and an assurance from President Kenyatta that he has no personal interest in this project.

Mr Odinga further claimed that that top Jubilee leaders have invaded Mau forest and are planting tea and building factories. He promised to release a list of the new Mau grabbers shortly.

Mr Odinga warned that the project will also kill the Sondu Miriu dam and turn it into a white elephant.

To support his claims, the former Prime Minister played a video where Kipsigis Council of Elders boss, former PC Isaiah Cheluget, says the community was never consulted.
