Promiscuous man kills lover over infidelity claims

Residents are reeling in shock after a man brutally killed his lover following a quarrel in Kirinyaga County.

The man hacked the mother of four children to death at Kiarukungu village in the wee hours and dumped her mutilated body at the nearby play field.

Armed with a machete, the man allegedly confronted his lover, Margaret Kanini, 40, at her house while accusing her of being unfaithful.

An exchange ensued with the woman denying that she was unfaithful to the man who is a rice farmer in the area. As the quarrel intensified, the man attacked and killed the woman before dragging her body to the playfield.

Neighbours who responded to the deceased’s distress calls saw the assailant fleeing and raised an alarm, attracting scores of residents.

The angry residents gave chase, baying for the blood of the assailant and caught up with him.

NYUMBA KUMI

They roughed him up but he was rescued by a village elder and members of Nyumba Kumi initiative and taken to Wang’uru police station.

A relative of the deceased Simon Murigi said he was at his home when he heard that Ms Kanini had been killed by his lover.

“When I heard what had happened, I rushed to the scene only to find the body of my sister lying in a pool of blood. I was really shocked,” said Mr Murigi.

Mr Murigi said the attacker behaved like a beast and the police should ensure that he faces the law.

According to the residents, the woman lived with her children and the man would visit her in the evening.

“The man always visited the woman in the evening and then leave for his home,” said a resident.

FOUGHT OVER LOVE AFFAIRS

Residents said the man and her lover often fought over love affairs.

“More often the duo fought and the neighbours used to separate them,” said Mr John Migwi.

But the residents said they were taken aback when they learnt that the woman had been murdered in cold blood.

“Although the duo used to quarrel, we never thought it would degenerate into a fatal attack,” said another resident Mr Chege Kimani.

Area head of police Mutoro Kizito said the matter was being treated as murder and the assailant will be charged in court immediately investigations were complete.

“We have launched investigations and the assailant must face the law,” said Mr Kizito.
