Police open probe on how Kayole woman collapsed, died in custody

Police have opened investigations into the circumstances that led to the death of a woman who was locked up at Kayole police station.

Ms Magdaline Ombango was waiting to be arraigned in court over a trespass charge when she collapsed inside the police cells two days ago.

She was rushed to a local dispensary within Kayole where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

An officer who spoke in confidence because he is not authorized to speak to the media said the deceased did not complain of any illness, but they suspect she experienced breathing difficulties.

“She never complained of any problem but we suspect she developed breathing difficulties.

“Currently we are waiting for a postmortem so that we find out what happened,” said the officer.
