Police officer accused of murdering businessman released on bond

A police officer attached to the Diplomatic Corps who is facing murder charges has been released on bond.

High Court Judge Lady Justice Hedwig Ong’undi ordered Police Constable Jedida Kasolo Kasungo to deposit a cash bail of Sh500,000 in  court before she can regain her freedom.

The court also ordered the officer, who is accused of murdering a businessman who had relocated to Kenya from Britain, not to interfere with witnesses who have been lined up to testify against her.

The late Johnson Mbugua Njenga, then 40, was killed at the parking lot outside a bar within Umoja Estate Nairobi on June 3,2016.

DENIED CHARGES

The judge further directed PC Kasungo to be reporting once every month to the Officer Commanding Police Division Buruburu (OCPD) until the case is heard fully and determined.

Justice Ong’undi, who was recently appointed to head the Anti-Corruption and Economics Crimes Division of the High Court, directed the case against the officer to be consolidated with another in which a businessman has also been charged.

PC Kasungo will now be jointly charged with Bryan Willie Marendes alias Bryo alias Rasta who was charged in June last year of murdering Mr Njenga at the parking area of Hornbill Pub within Umoja Estate Nairobi County.

Both accused persons have denied the charges and the case will be mentioned January 19, 2017.
