Police intercept bhang worth Sh500k in transit

Police have intercepted Sh500,000 worth of bhang transported along Namanga road in Kajiado County.  Two suspects were arrested in two separate incidents yesterday.

Police officers manning a road block in Ilbisil acted on a tip-off from members of the public and stopped a speeding Nissan Xtrail car, suspected to have been ferrying bhang, but the driver denied the accusation and sped off.

Police in Kajiado were notified of the vehicle and they pitched a road block in Kajiado town where they apprehended two suspects.  The vehicle was carrying eight sacks of bhang.

Confirming the incident, Kajiado police commander Tito Kilonzi said police along Nairobi-Namanga highway are on high alert regarding illegal goods and drugs being ferried on that route.

“Police were notified of a vehicle that was moving from Namanga heading to Nairobi suspected to be ferrying bhang,’’said Mr Kilonzi.

He said a chase between the suspects and police officers ensued where the suspects later stopped and opted to escape on foot. The pair tried to dive into Olkejuado River but were they were apprehended before they could do so.

The county commander put on notice those involved in drugs trade.
