Police hunting for gang that hijacked Kawang’ware bus

Police are looking for a gang of six men that  hijacked a Kawang’ware bound bus and robbed passengers on Tuesday night.

The gang, according to Dagoretti OCPD Matthew Gwiyo, had posed as passengers and boarded the Kenya Bus Service bus at the city center.

On reaching Yaya Center, the six commandeered the driver to a field in Othaya Road.

“They then robbed the 50 passengers on board and made away with their valuables. The passengers said one of them was armed with a pistol,” Mr Gwiyo said.

After the thugs left, the driver of the bus drove to Muthangari Police station.

Police at the station have started investigations into the incident.

The incident comes just days after another bus heading to Dagoretti was carjacked in almost the same area.

Police suspect the gang committed the two robberies. They also suspect the gang is behind a string of other cases of carjacking in the city.

Last year, Inspector General of Police, David Kimaiyo asked all bus companies to conduct security checks on their passengers before they allow them to board the buses to avoid cases of carjacking.

The directive came with a warning that bus companies will be responsible for any property lost during a carjacking incident.
