Police gun down two suspected carjackers in Kayole

Police in Nairobi shot dead two carjackers and recovered a stolen vehicle after a shootout in Kayole estate on Friday morning.

The Toyota NZE registration number KBM 011W was carjacked in Murang’a county at 11pm on Thursday.

Police tracked the vehicle’s movement and it was spotted around Kayole estate in Nairobi.

Kayole OCPD John Gichangi said officers in Murang’a alerted their colleagues in Kayole to waylay the carjackers.

“The car was spotted at around 9:30am near the DO’s office and officers from Kayole police station tried stopping it but instead of stopping two of the occupants came out and started shooting at the police,” said Gichangi.

ESCAPED ON FOOT

The officers responded and two more occupants from the front seats came out and started shooting at the police.

“Two of the occupants were fatally injured and police recovered two homemade guns from them,” said Mr Gichangi.

He said that a manhunt has been launched for the other two occupants who escaped.

“We are on high alert and are tracing the other two who escaped on foot,” said Mr Gichangi.

Also recovered by the police were handcuffs, one round of ammunition and a mobile phone believed to have been used by one of the carjackers.
