Police bust human trafficking ring in Nairobi, rescue 79 foreigners


Police officers in Nairobi on Friday rescued 79 foreigners from human traffickers at Mlango Kubwa area within Starehe constituency.

Acting on a tip off from members of the public, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) raided the hideout where the foreigners were being held against their will.

Among the rescued foreigners were 75 Comorans, three Ugandans and one Congolese aged between 19 and 45 years.

According to the police, the rescued foreigners are currently in safe custody.

“Detectives have already commenced investigations to nab the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” DCI said.

This not the first time that police are rescuing foreigners being trafficked.

Last year, the government reported 35 investigations of potential trafficking cases, compared to 530 in 2016. Many of them included smuggling and trafficking-related crimes.
