Police arrest ‘witness in chief’ as probe on his identity starts

A man who made headlines after he claimed to have witnessed two high-profile accidents in a span of one week has been arrested.

Dennis Muigai Ngengi was arrested in Ruiru on Thursday, according to Director of Criminal Investigations Ndegwa Muhoro.

Mr Muhoro said detectives want to know the man’s character as well as his real name.

“He is being detained in one of the stations. We want to know the character: Who is this man? Even the identity we need to know…you might find he is Ugandan,” added Mr Muhoro.

The man told journalists during seperate TV interviews that his name was Dennis Muigai Ngengi.

He claimed to be a state pilot during an interview with NTV after the helicopter accident in Lake Nakuru.

A few days later, he told Citizen TV that he was trailing Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru’s ill-fated Mercedes Benz and witnessed it crash. The governor died.
