16 petrol stations in Nairobi demolished for selling adulterated fuel
The Energy Regulatory Commission has demolished 14 filling stations in Nairobi while two have been closed down for selling adulterated fuel in the local market.
In a statement on Thursday, the commission said that in the period between July and September 4, 456 tests were conducted at 675 petroleum sites country wide.
During the exercise, 637 sites were compliant but tests from 38 sites turned out to be non-compliant.
Out of the non-compliant stations, 28 sites were demolished and suspects prosecuted in court while six stations were closed.
Majority of the sites which were demolished were in Industrial Area, Donholm, South B, Huruma and Ruiru. In Donholm, a station was found selling diesel contaminated with kerosene.

At the same time, the commission said that during the crackdown four trucks were also impounded and one truck later released.
Three sites were reopened after the owners upgraded the product and paid penalties amounting to Sh500,000.
A list of all sites found with adulterated products is available on the Commissions website.
ERC has asked the public to report suspected cases to authorities.
Motorists have also been asked to inform the commission should they experience jerking, excessive smoke from the exhaust, loss of engine power and engine stalls after fueling.
Further, they have been advised to obtain receipts or retain SMSs for mobile payment as evidence of purchase.
