Several passengers sustained minor injuries after a matatu they were traveling in was involved in a road accident on Wednesday afternoon.

The matatu which plies the CBD-Ngong town route was heading to Ngong when it flipped and fell on one side along the Southern Bypass near Karen.

In a video clip that was shared on social media, smoke is seen bellowing from the bright yellow matatu as passengers frantically jump out to safety.

Some eye witnesses blamed the matatu driver for speeding, saying that most of the matatus that ply that route are often driven recklessly.

The accident comes just days after a matatu rammed a police car in Nairobi’s CBD.

The matatu, which fled the scene after the incident, was later impounded and has been detained at the Central Police station.
