President Obama all blue in Nairobi

US President Barack Obama said the next time he travels to Kenya he probably will not be too formally dressed.

“First time I came I was in jeans and a back pack. When I come back I’ll probably not be wearing a suit,” he said.

Obama who arrived in the country on Friday evening, wearing a navy blue suit, white shirt and a light blue tie, followed it up on Saturday with a similar outfit – another blue tie in a darker shade.

His wardrobe choices for the historic visit to his fatherland are in keeping with his decision to reduce his sartorial choices to two basic colours.

In a magazine interview, Obama declared that he only wore blue or gray to make dressing up and getting ready much easier and quicker.

GRAY SUIT

“You’ll see I wear only gray or blue suits,” he (Obama) said. “I’m trying to pare down decisions. I don’t want to make decisions about what I’m eating or wearing. Because I have too many other decisions to make,” he told Vanity Fair.

He did however stray from the script by opting for a tan coloured suit during the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

This became a major talking point almost overshadowing his policies on the issue. Social media erupted into a frenzy with the fashion world commending him on his taupe suit, a colour that is perceived to be more casual.

In an age where everything is scrutinized and president Obama remains one of the world’s most visible personalities his pared down colour palette leaves his wife Michelle Obama and daughters Malia and Sasha in the fashion spotlight.

The president, who still has a day left on his itinerary could still make history if he switches it up and surprising the world by throwing on another colour.
