Nyeri governor discharged from UK hospital

Governor Nderitu Gachagua has been discharged from hospital in the United Kingdom and will be in the county in the next 10 days.

“We are looking forward to seeing him continue with his work,” Deputy Governor Samuel Wamathai said on Monday.

He spoke at Green Hills Hotel in Nyeri Town during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the county and the Kenya School of Government.

Mr Wamathai said the position of governor is challenging and stressful.

He has been the acting governor for the last two-and-a-half months.

Earlier, Mr Wamathai was jeered by residents protesting against the County’s Revenue Administration Act, 2014, through which land rates and charges for running businesses have been increased.

The residents want the county government to halt the implementation of the Act and hold consultative meetings with all stakeholders over the law.

Mr Wamathai’s announcement comes a week after an official statement on Mr Gachagua’s health was tabled in the county assembly.
