NRM outlawed by government after Raila takes oath

By STEVEN OMONDI January 30th, 2018 1 min read

The government on Tuesday moved with speed to outlaw the National Resistance Movement (NRM) just hours after opposition leader Raila Odinga was sworn in as the people’s ‘president’.

In a gazette notice made public shortly after the Nasa event at Uhuru Park, Interior Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i declared the NRM to be an organized criminal group.

The gazette notice was dated January 30, 2018.

The declaration effectively puts NRM, which is an offshoot of the opposition Nasa, in the same category as the outlawed Al Shabaab and Mungiki, which have also been listed as organised criminal groups.
