Ngilu trashes road safety rules during boda boda ride

By SYLVANIA AMBANI September 20th, 2016 1 min read

Former lands cabinet secretary Charity Ngilu on Monday ditched her car to hitch a ride on a boda boda to Chuluni market in Kitui county.

In photos posted on her Twitter handle, Mrs Ngilu sat sideways on one of the boda boda’s while being escorted by a dozen others.

According to safety regulations by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), riders and passengers on motor cycles must wear helmets and reflector jackets.

Passengers must also sit astride and use foot rests with exception to persons with disability.

Offenders are liable to a fine not exceeding Sh20,000 or a jail term of not more than six months or both.

The former minister has expressed interest in the Kitui County’s gubernatorial seat being held by Mr Julius Malombe.

The photos however drew mixed reactions from her Twitter followers including former Presidential Candidate Martha Karua and the Boda Boda Association of Kenya.
