‘Nation’ journalists selected for fellowships
Daily Nation reporters Elizabeth Merab and Aggrey Mutambo will in October be part African journalists invited for separate fellowships.
Ms Merab, a health reporter, is among nine journalists from across the world who will attend a three day fellowship in Seattle, Washington.
“The nine journalists selected for the trip will visit working labs and insectaries, and meet with experts to learn about innovative tools and approaches that could revolutionize how we detect, treat and prevent malaria—accelerating the path to eradication,” read a statement from Malaria No More, a nonprofit organization that aims to end death caused by malaria
She was the only Kenyan selected for the fellowship whose aim is to achieve malaria education across the world through advocacy.
“One hundred and sixty-eight global health organizations work in Washington state—many of whom focus on finding a viable malaria vaccine, better drugs and culturally appropriate solutions,” explained Lisa Cohen, executive director of the Washington Global Health Alliance.
Mr Mutambo will attend the Africa Hotel Investment forum at Kigali for three days as part of an initiative by a news wire organization APO to support the growth of journalists across the continent.
“Each year APO offers journalists the opportunity to attend major African events such as the African Development Bank Annual Meeting and AfricaCom as a part of its commitment to supporting journalism in Africa,” read a statement from APO.
