Nairobi spent Sh2.79 billion in first quarter

Nairobi was the biggest spending county in the country in the first quarter of operation, according to the latest report from the Controller of budget.

The county spent Sh2.79 billion in the four-month period between July to October, 2013.

The biggest chunk of the money was used to pay salaries and allowances of county executives and county representatives.

The county executive consumed Sh2.5 billion, while the county assembly used Sh258 million.

The analysis of expenditure was released by Mrs Agnes Odhiambo, the Controller of Budget.

Nairobi, Mombasa, Narok and Bomet counties recorded the highest expenditure at Sh2.79 billion, Sh767.1 million, Sh572.6 million and Sh482.9 million respectively.

None of the 47 counties met the first-quarter absorption target of 25 per cent, the report  indicates.

Counties draw their monies from the County Revenue Funds. The amounts are deposited to respective County Operation Accounts to fund the county budgets.
