A Nairobi man has been admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital under heavy police guard after he stabbed his one-and-a-half-year-old son and attempted to commit suicide on Sunday night.

According to a report filed by the man’s wife at Ruaraka Police Station, the lady left her husband and child alone in the house as she went to work at bar in Nairobi.

When she came home early on Sunday morning, she found a pool of blood in the house but neither the husband nor the child was there.

She was later informed of the incident by the neighbours.

Starehe OCPD Alice Kimeli told Nairobi News that the suspect stabbed his son in the stomach once before turning the knife to himself.

He stabbed himself on the neck but when he saw that the baby was still alive he opened the door and was later rescued and taken to hospital. The son is fighting for his life at the intensive care unit at the KNH.

“The suspect is being guarded by police at the hospital for the offence,” said Kimeli.

A photo of the injured child uploaded on Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko’s Facebook page showed the boy’s intestines popping out of his stomach.

The hospital has since confirmed that both the father and son are in a stable condition and are still admitted while receiving treatment.
