Nairobi businessman charged with attempting to kill ex-lover

A Nairobi businessman was on Monday charged with attempting to kill his former lover.

Joseph Kiarie Mburu appeared before Kibera Principal Magistrate Lucas Onyina and denied shooting Margaret Wangui Wachira at Forest road on July 6 this year.

According to the charge sheet, Mr Kiarie pulled the trigger and injured Wangui’s left ear and shoulder as she alighted from a taxi that had allegedly stalled.

The accused is said to have been trailing the woman from Klub 1 on Ojijo road on a motor cycle.

Interestingly, the businessman had last year sued the woman for plotting to kill him.

Mr Kiarie accused Ms Wangui, who she referred to as his business partner, for hiring hit men to kill him together with another woman identified as Mary Wairimu.

The case is pending before court.

But in her statement to police in the case against Mr Kiarie, Ms Wangui acknowledged that the two were lovers since 1996 but later separated.

After the separation, she later learned that he was going through tough financial times and asked her current husband to employ him to manage their businesses, a job he had been doing well until they differed when Mr Kiarie became disrespectful.

According to documents presented in court, she alleges that the accused has been threatening to kill her.

She further states that she identified him before he shot her because the scene of the incident was well lit.

Mr Kiarie told the court that he is a witness in another case and applied for bail saying the same would abort if remanded.

Mr Onyina directed him to deposit a Sh500,000 bond with two sureties.

The case will be heard on October 15 this year.
