Mystery over missing Kenyan ‘God’ Jehovah Wanyonyi

Residents of Chemororoch area, Nangili, Kakamega county, together with followers of a sect founded by Jehovah Wanyonyi are an anxious lot.

Its been days since they last saw the leader of the Lost Israelis sect amid speculations that he has passed on.

A local village elder claimed Jehovah Wanyonyi’s children had requested the area’s chief to grant them a burial permit.

Relatives of Jehovah Wanyonyi say they have been receiving condolences from friends, although they are yet to receive any confirmation of the reports.

CONDOLENCES

“We are surprised to hear from people that Jehovah Wanyonyi is dead. Friends and even journalists have been sending us condolences. But we have not received any report on his death.

“What we know is that his children came here and took him to the hospital,” said Mzee Eliab Masinde, who is the spokesman of the sect.

According to the spokesman,  Wanyonyi’s children had refused to be accompanied by the sect’s followers to the hospital.

Mzee Masinde urged the sect’s followers to keep calm until they get a confirmation on the reports.

A local elder, Mr Daniel Kiptarus, has also urged followers of the sect and the family of Jehovah Wanyonyi to specify on his whereabouts.

“As the local elder, I want to know which hospital they took him to so that people can know the truth,” he said.

BURIAL PERMIT

The elder said the area’s chief had contacted him to confirm the death of Jehovah Wanyonyi, after the sect leader’s children had requested him (the chief) to grant them a burial permit.

“The chief has called me to ask if someone has died from this family and I want to know the truth if the old man is dead. If they are hiding the truth, we will also know.

Jehovah Wanyonyi, who claims to be God, at one time threatened to destroy the world and creat a new generation.

He was born 1924 in Mount Elgon area, the mountain he claims is Mount Zion. He has ten wives and 35 children.
