Mystery over schoolgirl who spent ‘two nights in hotel room with defiler’

Police have charged a man in Embu with two counts of defilement and indecent acts with a minor after he was found with a high school student in a hotel room.

The man was arrested after curious members of the public noticed unusual activity in the hotel room and alerted police.

Police are investigating the circumstances under which the 15-year-old girl left school and spent two nights at the hotel.

The student in Embu was meant to be in school on Saturday May 12, but somehow found her way out of the school’s compound and into the hotel room.

The suspect, who sells shoes at the local market, was identified as Kennedy Gitonga Kaburu.

RE-ADMITTED

Police are also trying to establish how the school allegedly re-admitted the girl without informing her parents.

The suspect denied the charges on Wednesday and was released on a Sh200,000 bond pending the hearing and determination of the case on May 29.

This comes months after a learning institution in the same town was invaded and five female students gang raped and robbed of valuables.

BURNT

In Nairobi, a young boy was on Wednesday burnt beyond recognition after their semi-permanent house in Kisii village slums in Makadara caught fire.

The fire, which is believed to have started in one of the other structures at night, quickly spread and burnt around ten structures.

Police suspect the fire was caused by illegal electricity connection which they say is common in the area.
