Musalia narrates how fallen GSU officer rescued his son at Dusit
Japhet Ndunguja, the General Service Unit (GSU) officer who was killed in the Dusit D2 Hotel terror attack in Nairobi, was laid to rest on Saturday.
The solemn ceremony at the officer’s family home in Kimala, Taveta sub county, Taita Taveta County was attended by Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and his wife Tessie among other mourners.
In his speech, the ANC leader narrated how the fallen officer rescued his son who was among the people trapped at the hotel at the time of the incident.
“I know people are asking why I came here. My son Michael works at Dusit and on that particular day he sent us a text message telling us he might die and that he loves us,” Mudavadi said.
RESCUE OPERATION
“He then went and hid himself at the fire escape area with his three colleagues. After two hours my son was rescued,” he further narrated.
The former Vice President said his son’s life was spared because of police officers, Ndunguja included, who put their lives in the line to save others.
SALATON NJAU
Mr Mudavadi hailed the police and other security agencies for their quick response during the incident, saying it was a highly professional and well-coordinated rescue operation which saved the life of his son and more than 700 other people.
WAR ON TERRORISM
Mudavadi urged Kenyans to respect and cooperate with the police because they sacrifice a lot to protect the country.
He said the fight against terrorism will only be won through cooperation between Kenyans and government agencies.
“We must respect them (security personnel) and give them the space to do their work. They are our brothers and sisters,” he said.
