MP denies being arrested in city estate for drunk driving

Mathioya MP Peter Kimari has denied reports of spending the night in police custody for drunk driving following his arrest in Madaraka Estate.

He has urged his supporters to dismiss the reports as “rumours”

“Ignore rumours that I have been arrested and I will be taken to court today (Friday),” he told Nation in an interview.

The reports were published by a section of the media on Thursday morning.

Mr Kimari said he was in Parliament at the time of his claimed arrest attending a session of the parliamentary committee on environment and natural resources.

“When I first saw the news I laughed because how can a person who has a driver and a bodyguard drive himself. Even if I was to be drunk I could have been driven by my driver,” Mr Kimari told the Nation on phone.

He said it is true his vehicle was stopped on Lang’ata Road by police officers at 8pm but he was later allowed to proceed with his journey.
