Mother and sons found slaughtering donkeys


A woman her two sons and two other men are being held by police in Laikipia West after they were found slaughtering over 10 donkeys.

According to Nyahururu OCPD Mr Ezekiel Chepkwony the suspects were caught in the act while slaughtering the animals at Ol-Jabet village on Thursday evening.

“Police officers who were in patrol found the woman and the four men slaughtering the animals that were suspected to have been stolen in the area. Five of them were arrested during the 10pm incident while other suspects managed to escape,” said the police boss.

He said that 11 donkeys had already been slaughtered at the time while three others had been tied nearby awaiting their turn.

He added that investigations have been launched to apprehend the suspects who escaped while the five are being held at Ol Jabet police station.

The police boss said that preliminaries investigations show that the meat was destined to an unknown area in Nairobi and hailed members of the public for availing information to police before the uninspected meat was transported.

Area chief Mr David Kamau noted that cases of donkeys and livestock theft were on the rise in the area adding that several cases of stolen animals have been lodged in his office.

The chief said that the suspects will help police unravel the racket behind stealing of donkeys in the area.
