Moses Kuria still a ‘security threat’ after being released on Sh1m bail
Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria walked to freedom on Monday after depositing a Sh1 million cash bail in a new case of incitement to violence.
However Mr Kuria, according to the magistrate, remains “ a threat to national security.”
The magistrate also said that he believed that the probability of the politician repeating a similar offence “was high.”
“I am convinced that the probability is high towards repeating similar offences and also that he is a threat to national security,” Nairobi chief magistrate Daniel Ogembo said while granting the suspect bond.
CANCELLATION OF BOND
He warned that should the MP fail to desist from further incitement “it would lead to an automatic cancellation of the bond terms.”
Mr Kuria was released on a bond of Sh5 million with an alternative cash bail of Sh1 million.
The hearing of his case has been set for January 27 2016.
Mr Ogembo said that though it had not been proved, the charge against the politician was “ an urge to a section of Kenyans to take up pangas and slash fellow Kenyans,” a charge he said clearly “echoed the drumbeats of violence” thus posing a threat to national security.
But the magistrate said that the prosecution had failed to demonstrate how releasing Mr Kuria on bond may jeopardise the present case.
WITNESSES
He said there had been no mention of his possible interference with potential witnesses.
Mr Kuria is charged with incitement and disobedience of the law arising from remarks he made at Gatundu stadium during public rally.
The prosecution claims he urged youth to take machetes and slash politicians opposed to NYS programmes.
