How Miguna elbowed way back into Raila’s inner circle despite his past ‘sins’ – VIDEO

By HILARY KIMUYU February 1st, 2018 2 min read

Things came a full circle for controversial and outspoken lawyer, Miguna Miguna, on Tuesday when he presided over Nasa leader Raila Odinga’s swearing in at Uhuru Park.

Miguna, a one time advisor to Odinga, has spent almost six years in the wilderness, criticizing and discrediting his former boss.

At the height of their animosity, Miguna authored and published Peeling Back the Mask: A Quest for Justice in Kenya, a book that was highly critical of the former Prime Minister.

Then came the disputed presidential election of August 8, 2017, and everything changed dramatically.

As recent as August 2017, when he contested for and lost the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, Miguna was still very hostile to Odinga, in particular, and the ODM leadership in general.

In one particular interview on JKL Live, Miguna dismissed Odinga as “a joker who doesn’t know how to run a country.”

SWORN IN

Now a dyed in the wool Odinga follower, Miguna, who it must be said has the gift of the gab, was recently put on the spot on NTV’s AM Live with a playback of that JKL Live interview.

A quiet and seemingly tongue-tied Miguna watched the clip in silence before giving a rebuttal which was more or less a classic case one talking out of both sides of his mouth.

His simple defense was that Odinga won the presidential elections in 2007 but failed to heed his (Miguna) counsel to have himself sworn in.

“This time what I’m saying… I’m there as the general, I’m going to ensure that he is sworn in, I’m going to ensure that he takes the instruments of power, I’m going to make sure that this illegitimate usurpers of people’s sovereignty and power are kicked out of power,” Miguna thundered out.

That perhaps explain why Miguna and fellow learned friend and Senior Counsel James Orengo were at hand as witnesses when Odinga took the oath of office, administered by TJ Kajwanga on Tuesday at a packed Uhuru Park on Tuesday afternoon.
