Meet the man who took Dennis Itumbi’s job at State House

The departure of Dennis Itumbi from State House to his new role as Secretary Digital, Innovations and Diaspora Communications left a vacancy in the president’s communication team that little has been said about.

Itumbi held the post of Director, Digital Innovations and Diaspora Communication until the State House communication team was reorganized.

The role has been taken up by long serving State House employee David Nzioka.

In his twitter bio, he introduces himself as the Director Innovations, New Media and Diaspora.

David Nzioka has been working for President Uhuru Kenyatta since he was elected in 2013.

He was part of the crew that produced the Jubilee campaign video that showed Mr Kenyatta and William Ruto having light moments on set while filming their campaign videos.

Dennis Itumbi was axed from State House in June 2016 in a purge carried out by then State House deputy chief of staff Nzioka Waita on behalf of President Kenyatta.

The purge saw all the directors in the Presidential Strategic Communications Unit suspended.

In July the team was reinstated, but soon after the 2017 elections were redeployed.

Itumbi changed his Twitter bio from director to secretary and started working from the deputy president’s office in Harambee Annex.
