Medical board probes alleged negligence by city hospital

An alleged professional negligence case that caused the death of a patient at the Mbagathi District Hospital is under investigation.

The case, involving Mrs Beatrice Bosire, 42, who died at the hospital on Tuesday, April 1, after she was admitted on March 7, is being probed by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.

In a letter dated April 7 and addressed to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr Andrew Suleh, the Board’s chief executive, Mr Daniel Yumbya said they had received a complaint over the death from Ms Bosire’s husband, Mr David Mariachana.

Following the complaint, Mr Yumbya requested Dr Suleh to submit to the Board a full report on the complaint, certified copies of the patient’s file, statements from the medical personnel who treated the patient and any relevant record that may assist the Preliminary Investigations Committee (PIC) to conclude the case.

Mr Yumbya also ordered that the report should be ready by April 22. The letter is copied to the Director of Medical Services and Mr Mariachana.

The deceased was a businesswoman and a mother of four children.
