MCA warns Kisumu men against kissing girlfriends goodbye
The rising cases of insecurity in Kisumu town has led a Member of the County Assembly to warn his colleagues against kissing their girlfriends goodbye when dropping them off at night.
Market / Milimani ward MCA Mr Edwin Anayo told his colleagues in the assembly on Monday that most attacks in Kisumu have occurred because lovers spend more time outside the car bidding each other goodbye unaware of their surroundings.
He advised men in Kisumu town to kiss their girlfriends goodbye before they board taxis, so that when they reach their gates, the girlfriends just alight without wasting time.
Mr Anayo said that most men are always carried away by the last kiss, putting their lives at risk.
AVOID LAST MINUTE KISS
“By the time you are hugging and kissing in the car, with the high insecurity in Kisumu, you are not aware who is coming to attack, so avoid the last minute kiss to stay safe,” he advised his colleagues.
Mr Anayo amused his colleagues in the assembly when he said that most of his friends had been attacked in the same way.
“A friend of mine was escorting his girlfriend home after a night vigil. When they reached the gate, the man came out to hug and kiss her goodbye. He was hit on the head with a machete and everything they had was stolen,” he said.
Security in Kisumu has been a serious issue with most of the people being attacked at their gates while some on their way to work in the morning.
“The trend has changed. They no longer break into houses. They wait when you are going to work in the morning or when kissing at the gate,” said Mr Anayo.
POLICE BOSSES TRANSFERRED
Top police bosses have been transferred from Kisumu following sustained pressure by residents who complained about the inefficiency of the security apparatus.
This saw Mr Erastus Ekidor (county commissioner), Kisumu town OCPD Musa Kongoli and Kondele OCS Johnstone Wanyama moved.
Mr Ekidor was replaced by Mr John Elungata while Mr Christopher Mshimba replaced Mr Kongoli with Mr Ben Baraza coming in to fill the place of Mr Wanyama.
