Matiang’i issues ultimatum on school buses paint

By SILAS APOLLO January 12th, 2018 1 min read

Internal security minister Fred Matiang’i has ordered for all school buses and vans to be painted yellow.

This is in line with the Traffic (Amendment) Bill 2016, passed in the National Assembly last that requires school buses to be painted yellow, with institution names written in black.

According to the law, a motor vehicle designated to transport children to or from school, or for any non-school related activity, when they are in a group, shall be fitted with safety belts designed to be used by children.

The law is meant safeguard the lives of pupils who sometimes find themselves in the hands of rogue drivers.

Dr Matiang’i on Friday gave school administrators a March 30 deadline to comply with the law.

He also said movement of school buses will be restricted from 6am to 6pm.

He made the remarks at a workshop on education reforms at the Kenya School of Government.
