Matiang’i: I’m not dating church elder’s daughter

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has rebutted claims that he is engaged in an extra-marital affair with a member of his church.

The minister said in a demand-for-correction-and-apology letter his office sent to Standard Group on Thursday.

The said article, which did not mention the minister by name, claimed the CS in question had also bought the said lady – who is a daughter of the church’s elder – a house.

It added that the minister had refused to honour many summons by church elders, and for many weeks now, had avoided church services.

DESCRIPTION

In his rebuttal, Mataing’i’s letter, which was signed by Interior spokesman Mwenda Njoka, stated in part:

“Although your newspaper did not mention by name the Cabinet Secretary in question, the description viewed against the background of adjectives your newspaper has used in the past to describe Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang’i, leaves no doubt that the CS being mentioned in the article is none other than Dr Fred Mataing’i.”

“In an article previously published by your newspaper, you have used adjectives such as ‘no-nonsense’, ‘outspoken’ and ‘strong christian’ to describe CS Matiang’i. It is for this reason that we have reason to believe that the CS your article was disparagingly referred to is Dr Mataingi,” it added.

“The purpose of this letter is to demand, on a without a prejudice basis, unequivocal retraction of the defamation article and an apology published prominently in your newspaper within seven days from the date of this letter.”
