Man who sold DP Ruto ‘mahindi choma’ speaks out
The sautéed corn on the cob (mahindi choma) seller thought to be a bodyguard of Deputy President William Ruto, has been found.
The man, Joseph Mutua, was found at his usual work place at the Kwa Maiko market in Githunguri, Kiambu county on Wednesday.
Mutua still donned the Rasta cap that he wore in the viral pictures.
In an interview with K24, he said he was going on about his business unaware that the DP would stop at his workstation.
“His helicopter was awaiting him in a nearby school field,” he recalled.
He says Mr Ruto approached him first without his bodyguards.

“Later a bodyguard tried to push me away but he was told (by the DP) it’s not time for work. Get one (corn on cob) too,” he added.
Mutua says the tool he uses to divide the cob depending on a customer’s wish was protruding from his jeans pocket and people assumed it was the aerial of a walkie-talkie.
Mutua says Mr Ruto handed him a paper and upon unfolding it, he found a gift. He did not provide any details of the gift but wants to meet the DP again.
On Tuesday, social media users analyzed a picture of the DP buying mahindi choma and concluded it had been staged.
They cited the protruding “aerial” and “unusually clean hands” as evidence.
