Maina Kageni: I never said Nancy Baraza went to buy condoms, vibrator

Radio king Maina Kageni took time to clear the air on his Monday show over claims that he made shockings allegations regarding the sex life of former Deputy Chief Justice Nancy Baraza.

Ms Baraza, in an extensive interview with NTV‘s Larry Madowo, had claimed that Maina Kageni had destroyed her career by claiming that she went to buy “condoms and a vibrator” at the Village Market mall on the day that saw her tussle with a security guard Rebecca Kerubo.

UPROAR

The incident with the security guard touched off public uproar that eventually forced Ms Baraza to resign after a tribunal, constituted on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission, ruled that she had brought disrepute to the judiciary.

The seven-member tribunal recommended that then President Mwai Kibaki fires her but Ms Baraza went to the Supreme Court to appeal against the decision. She would later resign before her case could be heard in full.

In her interview with Larry Madowo four years after the incident, Ms Baraza claimed that public debate regarding the incident had been shaped by Maina Kageni’s allegations that she had gone to “buy condoms and a vibrator”.

“Here I am, I went to buy medicine for my son. What did the media say? My discourse was shaped by a man called Maina Kageni. I hear people listen to something called Maina Kageni, I listen to BBC,” Ms Baraza said in the interview.

CONDOMS AND VIBRATOR

“Now people were telling me much later that the converastion was that Nancy Baraza had gone to that pharmacy to buy condoms and a vibrator. It was on Maina Kageni. And of course people were enjoying and laughing. By the way that shaped the discourse on me. That Maina Kageni thing, it shaped the discourse,” the former Deputy Chief Justice said.

On Monday, Maina Kageni denied making such allegations on his show and reached out on Ms Baraza for a meeting to clear the air.

” Madam former Deputy Chief Justice, I don’t know who you are talking to but I never said such a thing on my show. I am ready to clear my diary and have a coffee with you, and the person who told you that I said such a thing, in order to clear the air,” Maina Kageni said on Monday.
