Magistrate denies 22 NYS scandal suspects bail


Twenty two suspects linked to the Sh469 million National Youth Service (NYS) scandal have been denied bail.

Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti ruled on Tuesday that the economic crimes charges against the accused are serious crimes and compelling enough to deny them bail.

The accused will now remain in remand until conclusion of the trial.

The Chief Magistrate said the court has made arrangements for speedy trials.

The accused are among businesspeople, government officers and company bosses accused of stealing Sh468 million from the service.

They include suspended Youth Affairs Principal Secretary Lilian Mbogo Omollo and suspended NYS director Richard Ndubai.
