Why Machakos Governor reshuffled his cabinet

By HILARY KIMUYU October 22nd, 2015 1 min read

Machakos County Governor Dr Alfred Mutua has made sweeping changes in his government by suspending and sending six members of his cabinet on compulsory leave.

In a clear indication of his efforts to streamline the operations his government, the governor declared that there is no place for corrupt officers in Machakos.

“If you want to be corrupt, move away from Machakos. Two and a half years after the formation of my government, it is clear that some tweaking is necessary so that the vision and promises we gave our people are realized,” Dr Mutua said while announcing the changes.

Among those suspended are the Chief mechanical engineer, Mr Peter Kimeu, and the Director for roads, Mr David M. Mbatha. Both have been suspended indefinitely.

COMPULSORY LEAVE

Also suspended indefinitely is the Secretary to the County Public Service Board, Ms Rosemary Mulee while Mr Fredrick Kasoa (County Public Service Board, member), Mr Raphael Mutie (CEO, Machakos Water Company) and Mr Michael Mangeli (CEO, Mavoko Water Company) have been sent on two months compulsory leave.

Governor Mutua further cited corruption, insubordination, sabotage, incompetence and lethargy as some of the challenges that the county government has been facing.

“I will soon be setting up a Machakos Anti-Corruption team and a Projects Monitoring Evaluation Team to unearth shoddy and illegal practices. My desire is that Machakos becomes the best place to work and live, with a transparent and ethical government,” Dr Mutua said.
