Angry members of public lynched a land broker in Meru on accusation of grabbing his brother’s land.
They claimed Mr Daniel Kuura, alias Herode, had been colluding with the local Assistant Chief to grab land from poor people.
A resident of Muutine village in Igembe Central told Nairobi News that the deceased had recently sold the land of his deceased brother, a transaction that infuriated the public.
“Mr Kuura came to his late brother’s homestead and held (detained) his son so that they could fence off their piece of land. The residents felt this was bad and decided to take the law into their hands,” Mr Ibrahim Mwenda told Nairobi News.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that the detained nephew was the one who cut off Mr Kuura’s head before residents burnt his body.
Police who visited the scene to collect the body were turned away by the irate residents who wanted the body to be reduced to ashes.
The the widow, Ms Martha Karamburi, said the land in question was left to her by her husband and Mr Kuura wanted to grab it.
Lands officials who had gone fence off the land took off for their safety.
The deceased was accused of having used his influence to grab other properties in the area.
