KU student killed in fatal crash was one-month pregnant

Kenyatta University student Maureen Wambui Gachagua who was killed in a hit and run accident on Mombasa Road last Sunday was one month pregnant.

Her boyfriend Dennis Mburu Baragu revealed to NTV on Thursday how proud he was that she was carrying his baby.

“She was actually very proud carrying my baby, she would tell me how she was in love with the baby,” a tearful Baragu said .

Maureen was a third year student. She was killed by prison warder Sergeant Dismas Motogwa Gitenge who police say was driving while drunk.

The driver drove three kilometres from the scene of the accident near NextGen mall and with her body on the roof of his car before dumping it in South C Estate.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

Friends and Family on Thursday met at the Kenyatta University Funeral Home to view her body and coordinate funeral arrangements with university officials.

They shared their memories with the deceased and lamented that she did not deserve to die the way she did. The suspect Dismus Gitenge Motongwa was the target of their anger.

“I have heard of bad people but he is the worst person in the world I mean who does that,” said Joyce Wachira who was her classmate.

Olive Wangui described the deceased as a person who would mingle with people from diverse backgrounds, a peace maker who commanded the respect of her peers.

“Before she left us I had an argument with these girls and she was willing to stand for me,” she added.

Maureen’s body now lies at the Kenyatta University Funeral Home but her friends choose to remember her as the vibrant girl that she was when she studied at this very institution.
