KTN journalist charged with abetting terrorism in Uganda, released on police bond


KTN journalist Joy Doreen Biira has been released on police bond after being charged with abetting terrorism, her lawyer has said.

The lawyer, Nicholas Opiyo tweeted a picture of the bond which requires her to appear at the Kasese police station on December 8.

Uganda’s flying squad searched the apartment where Ms Biira and her relatives stayed prior to their arrests.

Ms Biira was arrested alongside her Kenyan fiancé Norman Kung’u and friends who had gone to Uganda for their traditional wedding ceremony.

She was accused to taking and posting pictures and a video of the clash between Ugandan army and guards loyal to the local king.

Police spokesman Felix Kaweesi appeared on NBS morning show and stated that the issue was being handled and Ms Biira would be released after interrogation.

By Monday morning, police had assured her former boss Kin Karisa, chief executive of NBS television of her release.

A former colleague of the KTN journalist shared a photo of her being led to the interrogation room early morning.

The Rwenzururu Kingdom King Charles Mumbere was arrested and is still being held.
