Kidero welcomes Jubilee supporters to ‘Canaan’

Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero on Friday came face to face with a crowd of Jubilee Party supporters and wasted no time in urging them to follow him to “Canaan”.

The peaceful encounter occurred in Embakassi where Kidero, who is seeking to retain his seat on an ODM ticket, was on a campaign trail.

From photos, which been shared on social media, there were hostilities even as the crowd in Jubilee colours milled around Dr Kidero’s car, prompting him to declare on social media his intention to lure them to “Canaan”.

“In Embakassi this afternoon where I had a pleasant interaction with a group of Jubilee supporters and welcomed them to Canaan,” he wrote on Facebook.

‘PROMISED LAND’

Canaan is a term coined and commonly used by Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga in reference to his plans to deliver Kenyans to the “promised land” if elected the president.

Having related his personality to the Biblical Joshua, Mr Odinga has been urging his supporters to follow him to Canaan, where he has promised a better Kenya.

Dr Kidero is up against Jubilee’s Mike Mbuvi Sonko, whom opinion polls repeatedly suggest is his closest challenger, for the capital’s gubernatorial race.

Others candidates in the race are in Tuesday’s election are independents Peter Kenneth and Miguna Miguna.
