Kidero trip postponed

A trip by Governor Evans Kidero initially planned for this weekend has been pushed to next week. Sources close to the governor said it was a response to ‘urgent matters’.

One of Dr Kidero’s aides told NairobiNews that the matters, which he was not willing to divulge, came up before they bought the air ticket to Spain.

When he missed out on the US trip by colleagues drawn from the Cord coalition last week, Dr Kidero appeared to have snubbed it, something that is likely to set him on a collision path with the party rank and file.

He is to attend an International forum on water in Madrid.

Six Cord governors are attending an investment forum organised by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in Washington.

Dr Kidero’s absence is raising eyebrows because when he missed the first trip in July, his explanation was that he would attend the second one.

At the time, speculation that he had fallen out with the ODM leadership was rife, forcing Secretary General Anyang Nyong’o to issue clarification.

“Our attention has been drawn to information circulating in the media claiming that governor Kidero is associating with politicians outside ODM and Cord fraternity,” Prof Nyong’o said.

He added that Dr Kidero had not indicated plans to quit the party.

The governor, however, told NairobiNews that he had permission from Cord top leadership to attend the Madrid forum.
