Kidero orders contractor to complete road ‘to be used as 2017 campaign tool’
Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero on Thursday shocked Kayole residents when he ordered contractors to complete the tarmacking of Mihango-Kayole link road so that he can use it as a campaign tool during next year’s election.
The road is being upgraded at a cost of Sh250 million, a week after it was reopened by the Kenya Defence Forces.
“I am directing the contractor to finish the work before July next year as I campaign I will use the road as my campaign tool to get votes from the people of Mihango,” said Dr Kidero.
The road had stalled after a controversy between the KDF and the county government with the army digging trenches across the road in October.
It took the intervention of President Uhuru Kenyatta who ordered KDF to reopen the road but fence off the land.
Over the last one month, KDF deployed armed officers and military tanks to keep away residents of Mihango and Kayole from the path and also chased away some 500 quarry workers.
The governor lashed out at Jubilee leaders for taking credit last week saying that they had sown where they had not planted.
This comes after Majority Leader Aden Duale, Nairobi Women representative Racheal Shebesh, nominated TNA Jonstone Sakaja and other members of the Nairobi county assembly on Tuesday last week graced the re-opening of the road.
“I personally called President Uhuru, I took the KDF to court and after I fight hard for you people someone else runs to tell you that it was his doing,”said Dr Kidero.
Dr Kidero said his government was doing its best to stop land grabbing.
