Kidero firm on Hazina centre safety

Governor Evans Kidero on Thursday made an inspection tour at Hazina Trade Centre but remained emphatic that City Hall will not approve extension of the building until safety measures are implemented.

The building houses Nakumatt Lifestyle mall.

National Social Security Fund (NSSF), owners of the building, seeks to add a 31-storey office tower to the current eight floors, four basement levels, ground floor, two mezzanine and one podium that will result in a 180-metre structure.

County hall however wants NSSF to implement  the safety measures before being allowed to proceed with construction.

The measures include assuring safety of tenants in the existing building structure, an updated and approved traffic management plan and validated environmental impact assessment report from the National Environmental Management Authority.

China Jiangxi International Kenya is the main contractor of the Sh6.9 billion project.

During the tour, Governor Kidero noted that NSSF had in the past flouted the City’s safety laws in its construction works.
