Khalwale denies banking Sh12m ‘gift’ over Mumias saga

Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has dismissed as “fake” a bank deposit slip indicating he deposited Sh12 million at a local bank in one transaction.

According to the “stamped” document circulating on social media, the politician deposited the amount into “his” account at Co-operative Bank on September 4 this year.

The Senator, in his defence on a local WhatsApp group, insisted that the said transaction did not take place.

“I have quietly been following reactions of members here from the day that fake deposit slip (fabricated by our desperate political competitors) was posted here!” the politician responded.

“Look at it closely, 1. Account number has 13 digits instead of the normal 14 2. Stamp does not bear signature of the bank teller 3. All deposit slips are normally franked electronically to reflect the names of the account holder and not the account number. This one is not. In any case the ID number aint mine and by the way banking these days is digital at Co-op such that depositers don’t complete a manual deposit slip,” the senator explained.

Debate on the WhatsApp forum had suggested that Senator Khalwale received the lump sum to shut him up over the Mumias Sugar saga.

Khalwale was however quick to dispel that myth in the same statement.

“Join me in fighting the sugar imports syndicate en as for the Kidero case, the matter is very much alive and in court!” he posted.
